Apart from the Void, no other permanent dimension exists. The Cyber event is the exception that tests the rule: in 341 KM a contact with a parallel reality opened for a moment, a piece of that other reality fell into this world, and the event has never fully been explained.
That piece is the Parallel Shard. It changed the people of Virex permanently — nerves, perception, seal-reading — and gave rise to the Cyber element and the Cybers themselves.
The Shard''s source has never been resolved. Whether the contact could recur is unknown. It is the world''s most carefully guarded open question, and the Shard Researchers'' reason for existing.
