Rovan Vyr

Rovan Vyr was born in 590 KM — a herbalist, beloved in his village, a man who knew which leaf breaks a fever and which root kills pain. He was the first person to notice the Seep: the reality-corroding substance that taints certain plants after a Void Gate opens.

He studied it, then used it, then needed it. Under the Seep''s influence he saw his wife Elen and his daughter Lira as Void creatures — and killed them. He was cast into the Void for it, and did not look at his son as they took him, afraid of what he might see instead of a boy.

In the Void, Rovan regained what the Seep had taken, which was its own punishment: he remembered everything. He shadowed his son Kaelen in secret for years — turning creatures aside, leaving food, asking for nothing — until the day he spent his life destroying the beast that had finally cornered the boy. His deck is what remains of him.
