Void Gate

A Void Gate is a passage between the real world and the Void. Gates open rarely and close on their own schedule; while open, they leak wrongness — including the Seep. The exile of criminals through the gates gave the Null Expanse its history, and the Great Sealing of 690 KM closed the most dangerous known passage. A gate also opens from within: when an Orvath is gravely wounded, a passage tears open briefly and allows exactly one person to return — the only known way back.
