Sound rose from the Crystal Scream of 327 KM, when the crystals growing through the village of Elyndra shifted from beautiful melody to frequencies that could break minds and bodies.

For the Echo-Bound who descend from the survivors, the spoken word is sacred and a lie is a heavy fault. Hearing matters as much as sight — often more. Children are taught to listen before they are taught to speak, and silence is treated as carefully as song.

Sound cards work through vibration: shrieks that shatter, resonant wards, frequencies that find the crack in anything. The most dangerous of them are banned, because a seal that unmakes a mind leaves no wound to point to.
