The Ancient cards are older than every element. They were born when humanity stopped trying to wield raw magic directly and learned to guide it through seals instead.

An Ancient card carries no elemental charge. It holds pure seal work: protection, gate-opening, lock-breaking, light, healing, concealment, and seal-dissolution. These were the first permanent tools that made power safe enough to live with.

Because they belong to no catastrophe and no lineage, Ancient cards are found in every society. They are the common ground between a farmer''s household warding card and the highest work of the Card Masters Council. Whoever learns cards, learns the Ancient discipline first.
