In 0 KM the first true card was made from Syleth paper — the year the calendar itself begins.

Year 0 of the Card Era is the year of the first true card. The breakthrough came when the fibers of the Syleth plant — a discovery tied to the name Maelis Vorr — proved able to carry seal power, and paper pressed from them held a worked seal permanently.
The first card carried no element. Its effect was a simple protection. Its consequence was a civilization: seal knowledge had become portable, storable, and tradable.
The world counts its years from this object. Almost nothing else in history is agreed on so unanimously.
