The Ash-Null appears to be what remains of living things that came back from the Void wrong — a remnant rather than a survivor. It cannot remain long in the real world.
It does not need long. Ash-Null manifestations are brief, violent, and the leading cause of the Void Hunters' shortest case files. Where one has appeared, the ground is watched for years.
